It is love touched by lust that makes three. A woman curled in the fetal position creates a nest for her pregnancy. Above her, a face, the image of the man she loves. Together, they will become three.
I purchased this stone in 1984 with money given to me by my father to buy food. I was an extremely skinny and emaciated artist at the time. What joy to finally be able to buy a very good piece of Italian alabaster!
Alarmed by my lack of gaining weight, he relentlessly demanded why and I had to tell him what became of his gift. He could not believe I had bought a “rock” instead of feeding myself. His comment: “every time a chip of alabaster falls on the floor, it is 25 cents that could have purchased food”. It gave me “sculptor’s block”. I finished the piece in 2012. The felt base was added in 2015.
